She passed away on Wednesday 21st September.
Our thanks all those members who attendedSouth Essex Crematorium

We send our condolences to Ian and his family at this sad time.

We also send our condolences to the family and friends of the Southend and
Bedford branch member Len Kay who died on 31st August age 97.

The Branch has a mention in "SHIPS MONTHLY"
We correctly identified the "mystery ship" as DEFENDER
lying in the Blackwater.

Maldon & Mersea Island Museum Visits
Our thanks to the curators of both Maldon Museum and Mersea Island Museum for giving us so much of their time and knowledge which made this a very interesting and worthwhile day out for us. For local museums run on mainly a voluntary basis they can both be very proud of their efforts. We presented the Mersea Island Museum with some photographs taken by Mid Essex members of ships laid up in the River Blackwater to help with their collection.
We now also understand the type of content of both museums and hope that we can offer assistance "as and when" in appreciation. Our thanks also to member John Raven and wife Maureen for their assitance with the Maldon visit and for a welcome coffee and cake.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our faithful member ROY LEACH

Roy was our oldest member and at 86 had been an active and regular member of the branch for many years.  Roy, through various sources, managed to supply the branch with copies of Lloyds List until they all but ceased “hard copy” publication. Roy also treated us to slide shows of his trips and cruises, his last being in January 2007, “Through the Kiel Canal” on Boudicca. He was also a regular competitor in the annual slide competition. Roy’s last meeting at Ingatestone was November last year and we believed his non attendance over the winter months was due to the poor winter weather conditions. However, six weeks ago he was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly died of a heart attack following surgery. Roy also devoted a lot of his spare time to the “New Ships” list at the back of Marine news. His expertise in this field will be hard to replace.

We at the Mid Essex Branch will miss his friendliness, his sharp wit and his extensive knowledge and send our deep sympathies to his wife Joyce and all the family.

Roy's funeral was held at a packed Basildon Cremetorium

on Monday 17th May 2010 at 12 noon.

Congratulations to our quiz team for achieving FIRST place in the
Leslie Sargent Memorial Quiz, hosted by Southend Branch on
Saturday 10th October 2009.

His dedication has made the branch the sucess it is today

This new branch website went live on 3rd July 2009 following it's transfer
from Geocities.
Geocities hosted our old site since 2002 but it will be closed on
26th October 2009
Hope you find this a site is easier to navigate, yet retains all the content of the old site.

The winner of our first Digital Photo Competition  held this year (2009) was Ray Smith.
David Brown, Branch Chairman (left), presents Ray with the Colin Viney Trophy

The 2008 winner of the slide competition Roy Kittle (left) and runner up David Berg with the Colin Viney Trophy.
This is likely to be our last slide competition due to the move to digital photography
